Used to be...

As I was putting Eden to bed tonight she asked me to get her "horsey" for her.

"Where is it?" I asked.

"It's where we used to watch t.v.," she replied.

We have not had television since last January when the digital switch-over occurred. It was not a big adjustment for me because we hadn't had cable for 13 years. We had cable the first year we were married but got rid of it when we bought our first home. We wanted to spend our "excess" on going out instead of paying for cable. We spent 13 years fighting with the "rabbit ears" and then decided what the networks where putting out wasn't worth the fight anymore.

We have never purchased a television set. There was always someone who was tired of their "old t.v." and we always found a set to inherit. Our television set was mostly used for the kids to watch a DVD or for all of us to watch a movie.

D and I recently went to Best Buy because we were considering purchasing a television for movies. We looked into a projector and screen... but found it a bit much for the space we had available. I must admit... standing there staring at the 55 inch... then the 48 inch... then the 42 inch... we were overwhelmed.

That was over a month ago and we haven't been back. When we mention a possible television purchase, we ending up saying... "Oh. What's the rush?" We just keep watching a DVD here and there on our laptops or home computer screen. (And that's usually a maximum of 5 hours total in a week.)

I guess it's just what you get used to...
