The Misadventures of Eden
Eden is on the verge of being four and sure she is fully independent! She comes by it through her DNA...I think I am raising my mother. Always moving...always helping...a strong sense of right and wrong...extremely independent and sure of her abilities!
This past weekend of camping proved to be her testing ground. First, while we were at Mirror Lake fishing her cat (Douglas) got thrown into the lake. Well, she freaked out! Douglas was quickly rescued and the excess water was squeezed out of him and he was "put up high" to dry out. Well, he wasn't up high enough because about 30 minutes later he was thrown into the water again! This time there was a lot less "freaking out" but a lot of "no, no, Luke!" (The perpetrator of the near double-drowning!) (Douglas was put into a plastic bag and into the back of the Suburban for safe keeping...)
Eden's next test was on our hike to the Blanchard Springs waterfall. She was already planning (on her own) on rolling her pants up so she could wade in the water. She was wearing Crocs and put her feet into the water. The water was cold and I warned her to stay out of the water so she wouldn't slip and fall in...to no avail. Five minutes later she was crying because she was soaking wet! She had not listened to my advice and had slipped and fallen in the freezing water. Dripping wet and cold, she held my hand as we walked back to the Suburban to get her changed. As we walked, she cried and lamented the fact that she had not listened...She decided the reason for her fall. "It's because I didn't take my vitamin this morning."
As her mama, I'm hoping and praying she is learning her life lessons through these harmless experiences. I could have prevented her from falling in the water...but what would she have learned...
